Write for us

Emerald Discovery welcomes pitches that make a natural-history subject understandable without flattening its complexity. We are interested in careful explanations, useful comparisons, overlooked patterns and thoughtful ways to observe plants, animals or habitats without disturbing them.

What makes a good pitch

Send a short outline naming the subject, the central question, the intended reader and the main point the piece will help them understand. A strong pitch has a clear scope, explains why the subject matters, and identifies where variation or uncertainty needs to be handled carefully. Propose a fresh angle rather than a broad survey of nature.

What we do not seek

We do not seek promotional copy, unsupported claims, invented field observations or instructions that could damage habitats, disturb wildlife or put readers at risk. Do not present professional credentials or first-hand experience you do not have. Tell us about any relevant interests that could affect a reader's understanding of the proposed piece.

Sending a proposal

Send proposals through the Contact page and choose the editorial question option. Include a proposed title, a concise outline and a brief description of your relevant experience or approach. A proposal is not an accepted commission; please wait for an editorial response before preparing a full article.

Our point of view

Attention is a way of learning

A careful look can turn a familiar patch of green into a place full of relationships. We explain what can be observed, distinguish it from what is inferred, and leave room for uncertainty.
